description

THE BIG KNOT (TBK) IS A VIRTUAL REALITY ART EXPERIENCE CREATED IN RESPONSE TO THE UN CLIMATE CHANGE SUMMIT, COP26, WHICH was HELD in GLASGOW, SCOTLAND, UK, NOVEMBER 2021.
Originally conceived of as a LARGE-SCALE physical art Installation, MEASURING 40 FEET LONG BY 20 FEET WIDE AND 12 FEET TALL, the artist shifted to a VR platform Due to concerns about public gatherings during the pandemic and to make the art accessible to people worldwide. Viewers of the TBK VR Experience will be able to explore, at scale, 196 OIL BARRELS CONNECTED END TO END. EACH BARREL WILL BE PAINTED WITH A FLAG REPRESENTING A COUNTRy attending COP26. THE Barrels are crushed, bent and expanded so they APPEAR TO RISE OUT OF THE GROUND AND COIL UPON THEMselves to form A LARGE KNOT. Tbk will be a fun way to learn more about climate change and how important it is to "tie the Knot" on Burning Fossil Fuels.

Story

and
Goal

When the UN climate change summit, COP26, was postponed from 2020 to 2021 because of the COVID19 pandemic, leaders and people concerned about our future on this planet were greatly dismayed. Though emissions slowed temporarily during the pandemic, climate change was not postponed.

about
the
artist

George Sabra is well known for creating large-scale public art about subjects where the environment and human actions intersect. His subjects often address the impact of waste, pollution, technological evolution and climate change. TBK, like many of Sabra’s pieces, will be constructed entirely of durable, reclaimed materials. The vr program is a new approach for the artist, and he sees it as a means to make the art more accessible to people around the world. Learn more at georgesabra.com
